P20 million building to rise for Taboan market

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A P20-million multipurpose building will soon rise to accommodate the dried fish vendors and area for youth centers in Barangay Pahina San Nicolas, Cebu City.

San Nicolas Proper Barangay Captain Clifford Niñal said the funding was secured by South District Representative Rodrigo Abellanosa for the improvement and beautification of the public market.

“Ang result sa meeting namo ni Congressman Bebot nga ipadayon ang project sa atubangan sa buwaran ug ang second floor para sa youth center,” Niñal told The FREEMAN.

Niñal said the funding is charged against the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways-7, which he was told that will be increased this year.

Niñal said Abellanosa told him that the budget would be P20 million to P25 million.

He hoped that the bidding will be done within the month to ensure that the building will be completed months after.

“Nindot ni kay aron ma-presentable and ma limpyo ang dinha sa Taboan kay daghan na baya nga turista ang manganha. Tungod sa project, mas mosamot og anha ang mga tourists kay limpyo naman,” he said.

Niñal said the ground floor will accommodate the dried fish vendors while the youth centers and offices will be at the second floor.

Tourists usually visit the Tabo-an Dried fish market where they can haggle for lower prices despite the prices stipulated in the stalls.

The market is located along Tres de Abril Street near the barangay hall of San Nicolas Proper.

“Naa pod mi’y bag-o nga gym dinha, duol rapod ni nga building. Han-ay na dayon atong buwaran, competitive nata sa uban. Maayo unta mas ma enganyo ang uban nga mo-adto sa atong lugar,” Niñal said.

Niñal earlier revealed the plans of the barangay to construct a monument with the heroes of the battle of Tres de Abril in front of the San Nicolas Proper gym.

The gym will also be renovated to add benches and other facilities.

Next year, the barangay officials are hoping that all developments in the area will be ready in time for the 122nd commemoration of the Battle of Tres De Abril.

Niñal visited Cebu City Hall yesterday to discuss the concerns at the office of Association of Barangay Councils-President Franklyn Ong.

Niñal, however, did not disclose the details of his visit to Ong. — GAN (FREEMAN)
