Bets told: Remove campaign posters

CEBU, Philippines — Now that the 2019 midterm elections are over, elected and defeated bets are urged to remove their campaign materials.

“We are reminding candidates to start taking down their campaign posters and streamers,” said Cebu City North District Election Officer Chauncey Boholst.

He said it is the primary responsibility of candidates to uphold cleanliness by taking down their campaign materials posted on public spaces.

The same sentiment was echoed by lawyer Marchel Sarno, Cebu City south district election officer, saying candidates should “help in cleaning their mess.”

Both Sarno and Boholst said the city government can also help in the removal of campaign posters.

“Comelec could not initiate the cleanup operations because we have other tasks to do. The city government may initiate the cleanup,” Boholst said.

Reelected Councilor Sisinio Andales said he will ask the Department of Public Services (DPS) to help the candidates in clearing the city from election materials.

“I will ask DPS to remove all campaign materials on the streets...I will ask my postering team to remove the tarpaulins on posts and walls,” he told The FREEMAN via text message.

Defeated candidate for south district councilor, Erik Miguel Espina, said he already informed his workers to immediately remove his campaign posters.

He also urged other candidates to follow suit.

 “Win or lose, I have contracted my team to remove my campaign materials in an effort to clean or to rid our beloved Cebu City of my posters and tarps,” Espina said. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
