Cebu City honors workers, achievers

CEBU, Philippines — On its 82nd Charter Anniversary, Cebu City recognized individuals who made a mark in their fields.

The Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) committee chose the awardees based on their contribution to the advancement of government operations or for their exceptional service.

The PRAISE Committee gave out 24 awards to outstanding employees, assistant and department heads, and departments.

They were chosen based on their “special achievements, innovative approaches to assignment, exemplary service to the public and recognition by an outside group of a particular achievement.”

Ronaldo Malacora, Department of General Services (DPS) head, said he is very thankful for his award as the outstanding department head.

Jose Cosido, a supervisor foreman, one of the outstanding employees, has worked for DPS for 35 years.

While he was given the award twice in the past, he missed the awarding ceremonies because he was ill. This year, he finally received it and gave the speech on behalf of the awardees.

He also thanked his team for listening to him and getting the job done.

The 10 outstanding individuals and five institutions were awarded at the Testimonial Dinner at White Gold Club.

Three awards were given, including Outstanding Individuals, Outstanding Institutions, and Posthumous Awards.

The Outstanding Individual award were given to Jonathan Capanas, Dr. Arsenio Pacaña, and Celso Pepito, Calixta Abella, Atty. Dara Acusar, Eugene Novecio, Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor operation head Genevieve Alcoseba, City Assistant Administrator Annabeth Cuizon, and Mayor’s Secretary Catherine Yso.

The Outstanding Institutions are Cebu Braille Center Inc. and Differently-abled Talent Entertainment and Sports (DATES).

ARN Builders Inc., Globe Telecom Inc., and Smart Communications Inc. also received special awards.

Samuel Bondoc Darza received the posthumous Award.

Student topnotchers in licensure examinations and youth leaders were also recognized.

The Young Sugbuanon Exemplary and Action Driven Leaders (YOUSEAL) awardees of the Local Youth Development Office were divided into four categories: senior high school, college, community, and Sangguniang Kabataan.

The grand awardees for each categories were Angela Sofia Mancao for senior high school, Nino Jan Miole for college, Chrysler Ian Vizcayno for community, and Barangay Sawang Calero for the SK council category.

Mancao, a student of St. Theresa’s College, said she looks forward to being a good influence to her peers and do volunteer work with the youth.

Meanwhile, 24 Cebuano topnotchers in the recent licensure examinations were recognized at a ceremony at Plaza Sugbo for their contribution to the youth sector and to the studentry. They were given incentives as provided for under City Ordinance No. 2405 or the Cebuano Topnotchers Ordinance for bringing “pride, honor, and inspiration to the city.”
