LCPO to destroy firecrackers today
CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) will have a regional simultaneous disposal of the confiscated firecrackers this morning.
The items were among those seized during LCPO’s Ligtas Paskuhan 2018.
Earlier, the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of LCPO confiscated at least 283 illegal firecrackers worth P5,600 in Barangay Babag last December 30.
Superintendent Mark Gifter Sucalit, CIB chief, said the items were displayed at Purok Shooting Star.
The owners of the firecrackers did not have permits to sell and they immediately ran away when the police arrived.
Since the start of Christmas season until the days prior to the celebration of New Year last December 31, the LCPO has intensified its campaign against illegal firecrackers that are sold in the city.
Each police station has also conducted a “rekorida” around their areas of responsibility for a safe New Year revelry and advised them to use trumpets instead of playing with firecrackers.
The Lapu-Lapu City government has been strict in dealing with the sale of firecrackers because if they will go easy about the matter, residents may face consequences in the future.
Prior to the revelry, Mayor Paz Radaza has reminded them to coordinate with the law enforcers responsible in making sure that they have complete permits including the permit from the city government.
Failure to cooperate will face complaints of Republic Act 7183 or the act regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices. (FREEMAN)
