No work, classes in Mandaue next week
CEBU, Philippines — There will be no classes and work on August 30, Thursday, in Mandaue City in celebration of its 49th Charter Day.
President Rodrigo Duterte issued Presidential Proclamation 40 declaring August 30 as a special non-working holiday in the city.
The presidential proclamation was signed by Salvador Medialdea, president’s executive secretary, on August 10, 2016.
"Whereas, it is but fitting and proper that the people of City of Mandaue to be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," read the Proclamation No. 559.
On June 21, 1969, the City of Mandaue was recognized as a highly-urbanized city (HUC).
Moreover, the city has allotted P4.4 million budget for its month-long activities.
The city’s commemoration coincides with the Mandaue Business Month.
"We have actually lined up different activities to help businesses to be competitive not just locally but globally," Mandaue City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) President Stanley Go said earlier.
The business summit is among the highlights of the celebration.
Go said they have invited exceptional speakers from the government and private sectors for the summit.
Next year, the city will be celebrating its golden anniversary. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
