CEBU, Philippines — A week after the Police Regional Office–7 deployed five teams from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) in Barangay Tangke, Talisay City, a total of 34 drug personalities were already arrested in a series of anti-illegal drug operations in the village.

Last August 3, a total of 42 policemen of RMFB were deployed in Barangay Tangke through the recommendation of the local government unit to dispatch a team in their area to address the rampant illegal drug activities.

Police Superintendent Marlu Conag, Talisay City Police chief and the ground commander of the deployed 42 RMFB personnel, said that this only showed that their strategy to deploy more police personnel in the barangay considered as seriously infested with illegal drugs is effective.

Last Saturday alone, RMFB personnel, who were on civilian attire, arrested four persons who offered them suspected shabu while they were having a snack inside a burger store in Barangay Tangke, Conag said.

“Kumain lang sila (police), nilapitan nitong apat (suspects) mistaking them as customers sa drugs and they were offered shabu in front of their eyes,” said Conag.

The operatives then introduced themselves to the suspects as police officers and arrested them.

The arrested suspects were identified as Joseph Radan, Brion Cañeda, Benjie Pantilgan and Mario Villarias.

Seized from the four were suspected shabu worth P4,500.

Conag commended the support given by the local government unit in Tangke, Talisay to the PNP.

He said that they are now planning together with the local barangay officials to conduct an ‘Alsa Masa Laban sa Druga’ activity wherein police together with the community and the officials of Tangke will have a march to show their condemnation of illegal drugs. (FREEMAN)
