Upland villages suffer from water shortage

CEBU, Philippines — Several upland barangays in Cebu City are now experiencing water supply shortage with the onset of dry season and with fewer rains recorded these days.

This prompted the City Hall’s Department of Public Services to convene yesterday, tackling the pressing situation in the mountain villages.

Among the interventions discussed was the distribution of water supply to upland barangays anytime this week.

As for the volume of water and the affected barangays, these will be discussed by DPS at a press conference today at the mayor’s office.

DPS will also announce its other plans and measures.

DPS Assistant Chief John Paul Gelasque said his office will coordinate with the Metropolitan Cebu Water District's (MCWD) to determine the areas that continue to experience low pressure to no water due to supply shortage.

According to MCWD, several areas in the city yesterday experienced low pressure to no water due to low production of Abejo well in Barangay Apas.

Areas affected were Barangay Apas and some areas in Barangay Lahug, among others.

On the other hand, several areas in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue cities will continue to experience water shortage until April 28. — CNU Intern/KBQ (FREEMAN)
