Gullas wants Talisay PUJs to utilize CSCR
CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas doesn't want additional buses to use the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR).
Instead, he wanted the Talisay public utility jeepneys (PUJ) to be given priority benefited once new routes would be implemented.
Earlier, Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon proposed to allow PUJ's plying from Talisay and Tabunok to use the CSCR instead of the Natalio Bacalso Avenue to decongest traffic situation in Cebu City.
Gullas is in favor of the said plan.
However, along the proposed rerouting is to cut off the routes of PUJ's plying from San Fernando, Naga and Minglanilla. These jeepneys would only be allowed until Starmall in Barangay Lawaan.
The LTFRB will give a special permit to at least 10 buses that will fetch its passengers until Campanya Maritima. The plan was supposed to be implemented last March 14, however, Gullas objected.
Gullas said he doesn't want another volume of buses to use the CSCR, saying that its current situation is already congested. This is because the buses traveling to the south have already started utilizing the SRP since last year.
He proposed that instead of additional buses, the LTFRB may give special permits to PUJ's in Talisay for another route that will travel along the city going to Campanya Maritima.
"Ang ako gihangyo ang atong mga Talisaynon nga jeepney maka take care niana. Unya income pa sa mga Talisaynon rather than kana (buses) nga most likely dili sila from Talisay," he said.
Gullas believed there may be another alternative solution to address the traffic problem that would be presented during their meeting with the LTFRB and the City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development authority tomorrow.
He hopes that whatever is the outcome, the proposed plan would be more advantageous for the residents of Talisay. (FREEMAN)
