Cebu City villages submit drug lists

CEBU, Philippines — All 80 barangays in Cebu City have already submitted a list of suspected drug personalities in their respective communities to the Cebu City Police Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas.

Association of Barangay Councils-Cebu City Chapter President Phillip Zafra, however, said he does not see the need to copy furnish the lists to the Cebu City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) since they were already given to law enforcement agencies.

“It’s best that those lists should be given directly to the law enforcement units that are tasked to fight drugs and those who are more equipped and experienced in the conduct of police works because after all these are their jobs,” he told The FREEMAN.

Zafra made the statement following the request of CADAC co-chairperson and City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention head Garry Lao to barangay officials.

Lao asked the barangay officials to furnish the lists to CADAC so that it could issue a resolution adopting the resolutions from the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council.

“Only 10 barangays ang ni-submit sa ilang list. CADAC needs the list kay mao na ang one of the requirements sa atong PNP,” he said.

As of yesterday, he said only BADAC resolutions from barangays Carreta, Lusaran, Lorega San Miguel, Duljo Fatima, Sambag 2, Kalunasan, Talamban, Budlaan, and Sambag 1 were submitted to CADAC. 

Zafra said though PDEA-7 and CCPO are experts in their fields, adding that these agencies have been closely coordinating with the barangays especially in the fight against illegal drugs.

He said the information from the barangays will be directly forwarded to police station commanders, PDEA, and CCPO.

“Sila man gyod ang gitahasan ani. We always coordinate with them pod,” he said.

Lao, however, insisted the need for the BADAC of 80 barangays to help the law enforcement agencies in monitoring the whereabouts of these drug personalities.

He said the 10 barangays have also submitted resolutions informing the CADAC that there are some 23 of the 88 drug personalities that are no longer in their area of jurisdiction.

“We need to know if these BADACs are continuously working pod. We need to know naunsa na sa ilang barangay para maka-help ta og inform sa PNP since naay member nga police sa atong CADAC,” he said.

Lao said he will just ask the barangay officials to furnish CADAC the list of the drug personalities for them to help in monitoring. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
