CEBU, Philippines — The military’s Central Command now has a new commander following the retirement of its former chief, Lt. Gen. Oscar Lactao last month.

Lt. Gen. Paul Talay Atal assumed the post yesterday in a ceremony held at the CentCom headquarters in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Atal was the Commander of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division located at Upi, Gamu, Isabela in Northern Luzon.

He was promoted to three-star general just last month.

Atal holds a Doctor of Public Administration degree and a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Maharlika” Class of 1984.

He said in his speech that his promotion means added challenge and opportunity.

“Hindi lang dekorasyon itong mga ranggo natin. Habang nadadag-dagan ang ranggo, nadadag-dagan ang responsibilidad,” Atal told his men.

He also added that his service is dedicated to God and the country and reminded his men to be faithful to their duty to the country. (FREEMAN)
