Additional cash aid for Carmen residents

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial government will be extending an additional P100,000 in aid to the families of those who died from the flood last week.

Eight of the fatalities were from the northern town of Carmen, one from Danao City, and the other one from Alcoy in southern Cebu.

Provincial Social Welfare Development Officer Marivic Garces said the families of the fatalities would receive P10,000 each, on top of the P10,000 burial assistance and relief goods.

The cash assistance though is still subject to the Provincial Board and Governor Hilario Davide III’s approval.

Meanwhile, Provincial Veterinarian's Office Head Mary Rose Vincoy said the damage to the livestock and poultry industry in three northern Cebu towns during Typhoon Crising reached P135,300.

Vincoy said that the barangays affected by the calamity will be given insurance but this is, however, limited to barangays covered under the program of the provincial government.

According to Vincoy, Veterinary Logistics will give assistance to all damaged animal farms and poultry in the area which includes veterinary medicines and feeds.

Vincoy added that they are still waiting for the computation of the damage in Danao's livestock and poultry, while Compostela has not submitted its official report.

Cebu Provincial Agriculturist's Office Head Roldan Saragena earlier estimated a P2-million damage to Carmen’s agriculture.
