DOH-7: Woman with Zika has a miscarriage
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Health-7 will now stop monitoring the 32-year-old pregnant woman identified as the second case of Zika virus in Cebu after she had a miscarriage.
“Wala na ta’y laing kaso karon sa Zika kay nakuhaan man ang 32 anyos nga babaye, pipila ka adlaw human nagpositibo kini sa maong virus,” said Dr. Shelbay Blanco, head of the Health Emergency Management Staff of DOH-7.
Blanco also said that they did not know if the Zika virus caused the pregnant woman, who hails from Negros Oriental and is temporarily residing in Cebu City, to have a miscarriage.
Blanco also told The FREEMAN that the first Zika case recorded in Cebu, a 22-year-old pregnant woman, delivered a healthy baby girl last February 7 in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
The woman had to deliver the baby via caesarian section because her cervix did not open during the delivery, however, “Healthy ra gayud ang batang babaye nga gianak sa first Zika case sa Cebu,” said Blanco.
Blanco said there is no need to monitor the baby anymore because the hospital’s medical officer has said all is well.
The first Zika case in Cebu City was recorded by the DOH-7 on September 21, 2016. —/JBB (FREEMAN)
