CEBU, Philippines - In order to cope with the demand of the electronic consumer industry in Cebu, the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority - 7 aims to upgrade its electronics training programs through their newly-built TESDA-SAMSUNG Training Center.

The training center is a collaboration project of TESDA-7 and the Samsung Electronics Company to better offer electronic programs that will cope with the standards and requirements of the industry.

"The TESDA-SAMSUNG Training Center is retrofitted from an existing regional training center classroom to make its workshop and laboratory aligned with the standards and requirements of the industry," said TESDA-7 director Florencio Sunico Jr. in his opening statement.

The training laboratory is furnished with facilities and equipment that will provide the trainees an authentic learning environment that would make their transition to the workplace seamless and smooth.

With the new training center, they also expect to achieve higher employment opportunities for the graduates, added Suico.

In his speech during the opening yesterday, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña stressed on the importance of TESDA programs and how it helps provide an alternative for high school graduates to still have marketable skills even if they can't attend college.

On the other hand, the growth this year of the electronic sector has reportedly lowered compared to the previous years.

However, the government assures enough employment and opportunities for everyone.

Cebu Provincial Board member Christopher Baricuatro, who represented Governor Hilario Davide III in yesterday's event, said they will fully support TESDA and will even sponsor the first batch of 25 trainees to be enrolled in the training center.

Further, TESDA-7 is also extending its programs to local communities to encourage them to enroll in any training offered by the agency.

TESDA-7 is currently conducting registration for electronic training programs, which may officially start by second week or third week of December. (FREEMAN)
