CEBU, Philippines - A new blood station and collection facility has been inaugurated in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City, to serve the people on the northern parts of Cebu and neighboring provinces.

The new blood facility is situated in the Philippine Red Cross Regional Operations Center and Logistics Hub in the said city, is equipped with a blood bank refrigerator and generator set, and is capable of providing blood and blood products.

PRC chairman and Senator Richard Gordon, who inaugurated the facility yesterday, said that the new facility is part of the realization of their dream to set up a blood facility in every corner of the country to make life-saving blood available to everyone.

In his speech, Gordon said that they are planning to put up more blood centers in the country especially in far-flung areas.

With the inauguration of the new facility, the PRC now has 86 blood facilities all over the country.

Gordon also told hospitals accepting blood coming from PRC that there is no more need to test it. He said their equipment that tests blood is ISO-certified which means it has passed international standards. He also said retesting of blood from PRC just entails another expense on the part of the patients.

The senator urged the public to report to them those hospitals that require retesting of blood from PRC.

“Kasi being the chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee puwede ko’ng ipaimbistiga ‘yan,” said Gordon.

Meanwhile, PRC also turned over yesterday the completed projects in Cebu as part of the typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Operation for those who were affected by the said super typhoon three years ago.

The turnover ceremony, which was held in Bogo City, also culminated the partnership between PRC and the Japanese Red Cross Society which has completed its programs for typhoon Yolanda survivors in Cebu Province. (FREEMAN)
