Early registration for incoming Grade 11 students starts today
CEBU, Philippines - The same as last year, all public secondary schools in Central Visayas are holding an early registration for incoming Grade 11 students for the next school year 2017 to 2018.
Starting today, currently Grade 10 students can now register at the school where the specialized track of their choice is being offered.
The early onsite registration will also help the Department of Education prepare for the resources needed in implementing Senior High School.
"To aid in the determination of a projected and additional allocation for the crucial resources such as classrooms, teachers and learning materials is one of the essentialities of this early registration," said DepEd-7 public relations officer Amaryllis Villarmia.
She said the registration will be held at the schools but the students have been oriented beforehand on the courses and tracks offered in the Senior High School curriculum which they can choose from.
Isaiash Wagas, education program supervisor of DepEd-Cebu Province Division, said career guidance sessions were done prior to the scheduled registration to guide Grade 10 students in choosing the track that will suit their skills and interests.
Career guidance modules were rolled out nationwide on September 2015 for the first batch of Grade 10 students who entered Senior High.
Before, secondary studies used to comprise four years following the 10-year Basic Education Program.
But after the old educational system was scraped, two grade levels – Grades 11 and 12 – were added with the newly-implemented K to 12 Program.
Students are now required to go through Grades 11 and 12 before completing or graduating from high school.
Holding the career guidance program and the early registration is also in accordance to DepEd memorandum-161 dated September 28, 2016.
The early registration is set from October 16 to 29, as stipulated under the memorandum, although weekends may be excluded, said Wagas.
The Senior High School program coordinator for DepEd-Cebu Province Division said that the early registration will project the possible number of enrollees for the next school year.
Data from the registration will be used as basis for the adjustments on the plans whether DepEd will hire more teachers, procure instructional materials or build additional classrooms. (FREEMAN)
