Taliño revamps PRO-7 deputies to create well-rounded officials

CEBU, Philippines - Chief Superintendent Noli Taliño has revamped the Regional Directorial Staff effective yesterday, a week after he assumed as the new Police Regional Office-7 director.

Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, deputy regional director for operations, said the revamp, which affected five officials, was for the "rotation of the division chiefs" and serves as an "orientation of the officers in the different divisions."

Lawas said Superintendent Julian Entoma is now the chief of the Regional Intelligence Division; Senior Superintendent Marciano Batiancela Jr. now heads the Regional Operations and Plans Division; Superintendent Rex Derilo, Regional Logistics and Research Development Division chief; Superintendent Alet Virtucio, Regional Police Community Relations Division chief; and Senior Superintendent Clarito Baja, Regional Headquarters and Services Group chief.

Lawas said the move could also be considered as part of their internal cleansing effort as it would help determine who among the officials could better handle what specific division. 

"Internal cleansing… getting to know the police personnel who can really perform the job and deliver the job," he said.

Lawas said a police official must learn the work of the different divisions so that he is equipped with the knowledge that he needs in case he is promoted or moved elsewhere.

"As you go up through the ladder dapat kahibawo ka unsay trabaho," he said.

 Meanwhile, Lawas said Taliño directed him to convene the evaluation committee that Lawas would head to assess the explanations of 55 police stations that underperformed in the campaign against drug personalities in their respective jurisdictions.

"We will evaluate the COPs (chiefs of police) who are low performers, COPs who failed to meet 50 percent…. We are in the fifth month and wala pa gihapon," Lawas said.

Lawas said the committee convened yesterday afternoon and immediately assessed the reports of the station chiefs.

Initially, 126 police stations were identified as "non-performers", but after Taliño gave them one more week, the number dived to 111.

Lawas said that of the 111, only 55 are still underperforming.

"They will be required to present their side, one sa Lapu-Lapu City Police Office; 39 sa Cebu province; 13 sa Bohol; and two sa Siquijor," he said.

Lawas said they would check which stations have complied with the ultimatum to neutralize at least half of the number of drug perso-nalities in their territories, especially that there were those who reported to have meet the required number but those caught were actually among those who turned themselves in.

"Naka-abot pero surrenderers…. Dalia ra diay napa-surrender man dayon ninyo abi kay naay deadline," he said.

He warned that should a chief of police's report fail to satisfy the evaluating team, they stand to be relieved from their post said Lawas.   (FREEMAN)
