Simultaneous warrant serving: Nearly 40 arrested by city police

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Police Office has conducted another round of simultaneous serving of warrants of arrest and caught nearly 40 persons on Friday.

The operation, which is under the Philippine National Police's Oplan Lambat Sibat program, has been the third to be conducted by CCPO for this year.

The close to 40 people arrested by CCPO this month comprised of both young and old.

The eldest to be arrested was a 71-year-old man who was being wanted for the crime of estafa, and the youngest was a 19-year-old wanted for the crime of robbery.

The cases ranged from traffic infractions to commission of heinous crimes punishable under the Revised Penal Code, and violation of special laws such as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Of the arrested suspects, two have been charged for malicious mischief and for attempted rape.

One of the suspects was charged for violation of Article 3 of Cebu City Ordinance 1361 or "An ordinance establishing a system of garbage collection, imposing fees therefore, and appropriating funds and for other related purposes."

CCPO conducted its first simultaneous warrant service for this year in March, where they served at least 62 warrants of arrest out of the pending 853.

The following month, they arrested a total of 44 wanted persons, among them a former middleweight boxing champion and a 59-year-old man.

CCPO director Senior Superintendent Benjamin Santos Jr. said earlier that the arrests serve as a warning to those who have standing warrants of arrest that the police will find and arrest them.

Santos is urging those who have infractions with the law to just surrender to the court.  (FREEMAN)
