Man with gunshot wound found dead in Badian town

CEBU, Philippines - A man was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head Tuesday morning near the seashore in Barangay Manduyong, Badian town.

The fatality was later identified as Cherrynil Orillo, 36, a resident of the town's Barangay Poblacion.

His body was found at a secluded area surrounded by several mangroves which is said to be a drug den.

Manduyong barangay captain Dicky Virtucio went to the police station at past 8 a.m. on Tuesday to inform the police about the body found.

Acting on the report, Police Officer 2 Fortunato Purgatorio and two other policemen proceeded to the area.

They checked the body and found blood on its back dripping from the head.

 The victim was still brought to Badian District Hospital where he was declared dead. His body now lies in the morgue.

 Senior Inspector Christopher Castro, chief of Badian Police Station, said the suspect is still unidentified.

 "Based on the autopsy report, the victim sustained a gunshot wound at the back of his head. The doctor was able to recover a 9 mm caliber bullet," he said.

Residents in Barangay Manduyong reportedly did not hear any burst of gunfire coming from the area, but police believe that Orillo was killed there.

 "We believe that the victim was not dumped but he was killed therein," said Castro.

Based on the blood stain, Castro said, the victim had been killed hours ago when his body was found.

The station chief said the victim could have been killed due to drug-related reasons considering that the area is a known drug den.

The police have talked with the victim's family, who claimed that he had no misunderstanding or any grudge with anybody.

San Fernando

Meanwhile, the man whose body was found wrapped in garbage bag and tied with a brown packaging tape in Barangay Balud, San Fernando was identified as Jimmy Vosotros, a resident of Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police Officer 1 Lord Cañada of San Fernando Police Station said one Bernardo Vosotros yesterday claimed the body which was brought to Tupas Funeral Homes in Carcar City.

Cañada said their station is still conducting further investigation to identify the culprits.

The body, found Monday dawn, was wrapped like a mummy and had a piece of paper on it with a print "Tulisan Ko Du30." — (FREEMAN)
