2 holidays in Cebu City
CEBU, Philippines - There will be no work and classes in Cebu City today and tomorrow in celebration of the city’s 79th Charter Day Anniversary and 30th Anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, respectively.
The Department of Labor and Employment has reminded private employers of the additional 30 percent pay for workers reporting today and on Thursday.
Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella is asking the residents of the city to take part in the commemoration of the charter day.
“Residents should celebrate the anniversary of Cebu City. We should celebrate as one,” he said.
Labella, chairman of the city’s Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, said the celebration today is pursuant to Republic Act 7287.
Republic Act 7287 is also known as “An Act Declaring February 24 of Every Year a Special Non-working Holiday in the City of Cebu, to be known as Cebu City Charter Day.”
It was the late Don Vicente Rama who initiated the approval of the Commonwealth Act No. 58 that made Cebu City.
The city government will open the celebration today with a Holy Mass. Mayor Michael Rama will also launch several projects today.
The city will also recognize tonight outstanding individuals and institutions that have contributed to the success of the city.
On Thursday, the country will also commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution.
It is also a special non-working holiday pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1071.— (FREEMAN)
