Two towns get new school buildings

CEBU, Philippines - Over 600 students at Madridejos National High School in Bantayan Island will no longer have to attend classes in jammed and humid classrooms.

This after the Cebu Provincial Government and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. turned over recently a four-storey 12-classroom building to the school.

It is the biggest school building project of RAFI and Capitol by far, according to the Provincial Information Office.

The project costs P16.19 million, with Capitol sharing P7.6 million as its counterpart and  RAFI giving P8.6 million.

Melville Dela Peña, the school principal, said the new building will accommodate 660 students, out of their 2,000 student population.

Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale led the turnover ceremony last February 12 in Madridejos, one of the towns that experienced the brunt of typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Madridejos Mayor Salvador Dela Fuente and school officials also attended the event.

“Pasalamat ko’g dako kay Gov. Davide ug sa RAFI nga ila gyud gi-prioritize ang edukasyon sa mga kabataan,” Dela Fuente said.

Meanwhile, another school building in the municipality of Sta. Fe was also inaugurated.

The Marikaban Integrated School is one out of the six recipients of two-storey school buildings with six classrooms each.

The project costs a total of P8.8 million and was built from July to October 2015.  It will accommodate 300 students, with 50 students in every classroom.

“Sauna, kinahanglan pa mi mogamit sa elementary classrooms aron maluag luag ang mga klase. Maong dako kaayo akong pasalamat sa RAFI ug kay Gov. Excited na kaayo mi mo-occupy,” school principal Marjorie Diñoso said. — (FREEMAN)
