Policewoman faces probe

CEBU, Philippines - The policewoman whose mother and brother were killed by her lesbian lover using her firearm will face an administrative investigation for negligence.

Superintendent Ricky Delilis, public information officer of Bohol Provincial Police Office, said the Calape Police Station initially found Police Officer 1 Rosalie Cuario negligent.

Delilis said the firearm used by Maricel Ramos in shooting dead Cuario’s mother, Rosita, and brother, Joel, was owned by the police officer.

“Base sa nakita sa report, merong probable cause. In the first place, paano napunta kay Maricel kung hindi ibinigay sa kanya?,” said Delilis.

The 9mm Glock pistol used in the crime was Cuario’s prize in a contest at the police headquarters.

Delilis said the gun has a temporary license to own, temporary registration receipt, and individual application for new firearms registration under Cuario’s name.

“Dapat niya pag-ingatan yun at hindi pwede ibigay kahit kanino. Kung ito ay gagamitin sa krimen, tayo ang liable kasi pag-aari natin yun at bakit napunta sa ibang tao,” said Delilis.

Delilis said Cuario could not use as defense that the gun was taken without her permission because she was expected to take care of it and ensure its safekeeping.

“Ang dapat kasi, pag-ingatan niya kasi baril iyon,” said Delilis.

Ramos went on a shooting rampage Wednesday last week in Barangay Ulbujan, Calape, Bohol killing her girlfriend’s mother and brother. Another brother of Cuario, Vicente, was also injured.

Ramos was allegedly looking for her girlfriend whom she had prior misunderstanding. When she did not find Cuario, Ramos started shooting the victims.

Ramos was later killed by the responding policemen after she also tried to shoot it out with the lawmen. — (FREEMAN)
