Cordova causeway project complete

CEBU, Philippines - Bringing their catch to the nearby sub-villages while crossing a sloppy path will no longer be a problem of the local fisherfolk in Cordova town following the completion of the 520-meter causeway project.

The coastal road project which was funded P8 million by the Cebu Provincial Government and the municipal government of Cordova links the barangays of Camolinas, Poblacion, and Alegria.

The Capitol and the municipal government shared the funding for the project at P4 million each.

Fisherman Serelo Bering, 54, said they would no longer worry about venturing onto the muddy path with hazardous objects such as broken glasses that can cause puncture wounds.

“Hamugaway na ang among pagbalhin sa kuha namong isda kay di naman lapok. Niya dali napud namo ma dala sa pikas na sitio,” he said in a report of the Provincial Information Office.

Capitol and local officials led by Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy and his daughter Vice Mayor Teche Sitoy-Cho unveiled the project last week.

The causeway is among the infrastructure projects being poured in the town. Another extension project to link the coastal freeway to Barangay Gabi is also underway.

Sitoy, on the other hand, said the governor has already approved the P5 million financial assistance for road concreting project in Sitio San Miguel.

“This is the result of the clean and honest governance of Governor Davide and Vice Governor Magpale. We are very grateful to both of them for their support to our projects,” he added.

Davide committed to continue giving financial assistance to help develop the town’s great potential especially with the construction of the third bridge that will connect Cebu City to Cordova. With the Cordova’s continued progress and prosperity, Davide believes it would propel the town to becoming a city.

“I have no doubt, Cordova will eventually become a city with the pace of its progress under the leadership of Mayor Sitoy,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
