Restaurant loses P100T cash, item to burglar

CEBU, Philippines - At least P100,000 worth of cash and a valuable item were carted away by a burglar who broke into a restaurant located along Don Jose Avila Street in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

The police are looking into all angles, including the possibility of an inside job, since the burglar may have known that the restaurant doesn’t lock its doors due to the owner’s superstitious beliefs.

Employees of Captain A restaurant immediately sought for help from Fuente Police Station after lear-ning that their proceeds and an expensive item were already missing from their office.

According to Police Officer 2 Ulyssess Reales, the security guards of the establishment disclosed that the owner does not really lock the doors of the restaurant and just rely on the security guards.

“Tuo-tuo man gud kuno na sa ilang tag-iya gud nga dili pasirad-an ang purtahan. Para swerte siguro,” said Reales.

He said though that the restaurant locks the door of the office, which is located inside the restaurant, where the valuable items are kept.

However, Reales said the fence of the establishment is too low that a burglar can immediately get inside the vicinity.

“Mubo gyud kaayo ilang kural. Para nako, dali gyud kaayo to masudlan og kawatan. Layatan ra to,” said Reales.

It was the manager of the restaurant who first learned about the incident when he came at around 8 a.m. to report for duty last Friday but found out that the door of the office was already damaged.

When he checked inside, he found out that the P40,000 cash placed inside a cashbox was already gone, as well as the Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera worth P60,000.

“Abli man gud ang purtahan sa restaurant. So pagsulod didto, ang guard naa ra baya na sa gawas, dali na lang kaayo para nila nga gub-on ang doorknob sa opisina,” said Reales.

Reales said they are now trying to see if the closed-circuit television camera of the establishment captured the burglary since they were not able to get a copy of the footage during their first inspection because of the absence of the operator.

Personnel from Crime Scene Investigation Unit also responded and took latent prints inside the office.

Reales said they will consider all angles, including if there was an inside job.

“Di pa gyud ko kasulti ana. Kung makita nato nga sa CCTV camera, wa ju’y tawo makita atong orasa, posible jud na kay kahibawo na man asa moagi,” said Reales.   (FREEMAN)
