Colder mornings, evenings ‘til April

CEBU, Philippines - Expect colder mornings and evenings until April due to continuing northeast monsoon or “Amihan,” the state weather bureau said.

The onset of Amihan started October last year and is expected to end two months from now.

It is supposed to end sometime in May or June but because of the El Niño phenomenon affecting the country it would dissipate earlier than expected, said Pagasa-Mactan Chief Oscar Tabada.

 Tabada said most parts of the country, including Cebu are foreseen to have fair weather with cold mornings due to the prevailing winds.

“The effect of the northeast monsoon concentrates will bring cold mornings in some parts of the country, including Cebu and the northeast monsoon usually peaks from mid-January to mid-February,” he said.

He said due to the northeast monsoon, the public are advised of colder mornings in the coming weeks. Northeast monsoon is affecting extreme Northern Luzon, while Easterlies affecting the Eastern section of the country.

 The northeast monsoon blows into the country from Siberia and China every mid-October and strengthens every mid-December.

Citing the weather models until February 15, Tabada said Cebu will experience a “fine, warm and sunny weather.”

 He said the cold weather-associated northeast monsoon might bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies either with isolated light rains, sunny periods or low chance of rains.

 The weather bureau said there are no weather disturbances likely to develop into tropical cyclone near the Philippine Area of Responsibility until Tuesday.   (FREEMAN)
