Projects worth P100M set to start in fourth district

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Infrastructure projects amounting to about P100 million in Cebu’s fourth district will be implemented soon after these have been awarded to contractors following bidding.

Rep. Benhur Salimbangon told The Freeman that Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya informed him yesterday three port projects in his district have been awarded to contractors. These include the P40 million project for the completion of the Maya Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) port and the P22 million project for the development of a port in Malapascua Island, all in Daanbantayan, as well as the P14 million project for the Kinatarcan port in Santa Fe.

Salimbangon said the projects will commence within the month and are exempted from the election ban.

“I am so thankful to Secretary Jun Abaya for finally approving the budget which I requested in Congress,” Salimbangon said.

He said the Department of Health has also bid out the construction of a new hospital in Tabogon with an initial funding of P15 million. Of this amount, P12.5 million is for the construction of the hospital and P2.5 million is for equipment.

Salimbangon said the hospital is a 20-bed capacity facility funded by the national government through the DOH.

The groundbreaking ceremony is set this week.

Tabogon is a remote town in the fourth district. The nearest hospital is 17 kilometers away in the neighboring Bogo City in the north and 20 kilometers to Sogod town in the south. —(FREEMAN)
