New buildings, equipment inaugurated: Bohol hospital to soon become medical center
CEBU, Philippines - The Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital (DEDVMH) in Ubay town in Bohol is due for upgrading into a medical center just like the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
Department of Health Assistant Secretary Nestor Santiago Jr., DOH-7 director Jaime Bernadas and VSMMC chief Dr. Gerardo Aquino led the inauguration of the newly-constructed administration building, dietary building and hospital equipment of DEDVMH.
Bohol Second District Representative Erico Aristotle Aumentado reportedly inserted another P53.175 million in the 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the hospital.
Of this amount, Aumentado said, P46.175 million will be for the construction of additional rooms while the P7 million will be for additional equipment.
Santiago assured Aumentado that with the pace the latter is allotting funds for the hospital, it will soon be complete in all departments from pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, even oncology and ophthalmology and qualify for upgrading into a medical center.
This will also mean more resident physicians and consultants who can attend to all kinds of diseases that patients need to consult them with.
Studies for the conversion will start next year with the upgrading to be done as soon as all requirements are complete.
Aumentado expressed joy over the efforts of DEDVMH chief Dr. Mutya Kismet Tirol-Macuno, who has partnered with him and with his namesake father and immediate congressional predecessor Erico Boyles Aumentado in bringing the Ubay hospital to new heights.
The solon said the DEDVMH has come a long way from its sad state before when people used to call it “del Valibad” for the propensity of its doctors to refer patients to bigger hospitals because they lack the proper equipment and medicines. — (FREEMAN)
