Church ignores IEC basher

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Catholic Church is taking no offense on the bashing it gets on social media because of the inconvenience the 51st International Eucharistic Congress has brought to the commuters.

“Rest assured the Church is not taking offense kay nakasabot mi nga some people got angry because of the traffic. But please understand, we have to sacrifice a little bit,” said Monsignor Joseph Tan, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Cebu.

A woman with an account name Ha-pi Pheet posted on Facebook her disgusts that she had to leave very early to catch her flight for Palawan. Her posts have gone viral and she had been subjected to attacks by the netizens. Her account has already been deactivated.

“It’s okay to be angry. I leave it to the person’s composure and freedom of expression and how she expressed that freedom,” said Tan.

Tan added that those who have serious concerns about the IEC should call their office as they would be willing to take actions.

“We will entertain it kung dako na gyud nga problema. Di lang mi mo-entertain, we will take actions gyud,” said Tan.

On the other hand, Tan denied reports that a bishop has suffered food poisoning. He said it was a case of indigestion but there was nothing serious about it.

Tan, however, admitted that they have been throwing away spoiled foods.

“We have thrown away a lot of food. Sakit kaayo sa among dughan but mas sakit among dughan kung naay madaot nga tiyan,” said Tan.  (FREEMAN)
