City councilors recognized
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City acting vice mayor Nestor Archival, Sr. has awarded members of the City Council who have done “outstanding contribution” to the legislative body last year.
Using his own money, Archival handed plaques of recognition to several councilors during the regular session yesterday.
“Based on the report submitted by our very own Sanggunian Panlungsod Library Division Head, Mr. Roy Alix, we approved a total of 1,858 resolutions, 22 ordinances and conducted 71 sessions (inclu-ding executive and special sessions),” he said.
Awarded for their remarkable record of attendance with zero absences were councilors Sisinio Andales, Alvin Arcilla, Gerardo Carillo, Eugenio Gabuya Jr., Lea Japson, and Mary Ann de los Santos.
Councilors who sponsored the most number of resolutions last year were also awarded. They are Margarita Osmeña with 831 resolutions, Andales with 425 resolutions, and Lea Japson with 337.
For having the most number of approved ordinances, Japson with nine ordinances approved, Alvin Dizon with eight, and Ma. Nida Cabrera with five ordinances, were also recognized.
Archival also recognized the three councilors who will conclude their three-year term from 2007 to 2016: Japson, Roberto Cabarrubias, and Richard Osmeña.
“This representation as the Presiding Officer, believes it proper and motivating to recognize outstan-ding achievements of my fellow members of the 13th Sangguniang Panlungsod,” Archival said.
He said improvement of the legislative is one of the agenda when he sat as the acting vice mayor of the city in December last year.
“Despite our difference in political affiliations, personal convictions, we made sure that we accomplish our primary duties as elected representatives of our constituents and that is to legislate,” he said.
In a mass motion, Carillo congratulated all the members of council while Andales thanked Archival for the initiative, saying it was the first time the councilors were appreciated and recognized for their accomplishments. — (FREEMAN)
