CCTO: No rerouting for procession, traslacion

May B. Miasco - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Transportation Office is not implementing a vehicle rerouting for the “Walk with Mary” and “traslacion” on Friday.

Lawyer Rey Gealon, CCTO executive director, has warned motorists of disruptions of vehicle flow during the occasions because there will be no road closures.  Gealon said the vehicle traffic will just be interrupted as the procession passes by.

“Around 50 traffic enforcers will be deployed tomorrow for the Walk with Mary who will be stationed on strategic areas, especially in the different intersections along the route. We have to assure the safety of our devotees who will attend the foot procession,” said Gealon.

Traffic enforcers will be at their assigned areas as early as 3 a.m. on Friday to direct motorists and assist devotees joining the 4 a.m. penitential foot procession from Fuente Osmeña rotunda to Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

Gealon said the procession will only use the south-bound lane of Osmeña Boulevard.

According to Gealon, more traffic personnel will be detailed for the “traslacion” or the transfer of the miraculous image from the Basilica to the Saint Joseph National Shrine in Mandaue City. The motorcade will commence at 7 a.m.

To control vehicular traffic and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles, CCTO personnel will be positioned at different intersections and nearby arterial roads until the activity is finished.

The motorcade route, according to CCTO’s traffic advisory, will be from Basilica Minore del Santo Niño to D. Jakosalem Street to General Maxilom Avenue to Gorordo Avenue to Archbishop Reyes Avenue to Governor Cuenco Avenue to A.S. Fortuna Street and to St. Joseph Parish. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
