Cebu City gets new DepEd superintendent
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Schools Division has a new superintendent following the reassignment of Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud to Cebu Province Division of the Department of Education.
Acting mayor Edgardo Labella yesterday announced the appointment of Dr. Bianito Dagatan. The latter paid Labella a courtesy call at the City Hall yesterday morning.
“Although we did not ask for it, we appreciated his gesture of really paying a courtesy call to inform us that he is now the new superintendent for the city. We appreciated his gesture of being open, manifesting his intention to cooperate in all the undertakings that the city government will also be involved particularly for the public schools in Cebu City,” Labella told reporters.
Labella said he sees no problem with Dagatan whom he described as “objective, gentleman and professional.”
Labella said that informing the city government is very important for them to be working together.
“All the communications will be sent to him and meetings might be held so that we can properly address him. There should be a strong cooperation between DepEd Cebu City and the Cebu City government,” said Labella.
Dagatan’s first day in office started with attending a summit for senior high schools and another conference with the Local School Board.
Dagatan is a native of Camotes Islands and had long been assigned in Bais City, Negros Oriental.
“Our initial talks for us to be cooperative, to join hands together in bringing out the best for us not just to make graduates finish their schooling but rather to produce quality graduates,” Labella said.
After yesterday’s meeting, Labella is looking forward to a series of meetings with Dagatan and the Cebu City Transportation Office on the concern of suspension of classes for the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in January 24 to 31. (FREEMAN)
