Motorcycle driver slain in Dumanjug

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A motorcycle driver was killed after being shot by an unknown assailant Friday in Barangay Cogon, Dumanjug town.

Ronilo Meguizo, 35, habal-habal driver, of Barangay Cotcoton, Dumanjug town, sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his head and was pronounced dead on arrival at Barili District Hospital.

PO2 Ronilo Quirante, desk officer of Dumanjug Police Station, said Meguizo was ferrying a passenger to the town proper when shot in Barangay Cogon past 6 p.m.

Quirante said the area was dark and that there were no houses nearby.

A resident in the area saw Meguizo lying on the road and alerted the police. But when they arrived at the crime scene, the victim was no longer moving.

The police then brought the victim to the hospital where he was declared dead by the attending physician.

Quirante said the victim, despite having a case for visiting a drug den, is said to be a “good man.”

“Estorya sa mga tawo buotan man ning bataa. Basin babaye pod, naestorya nako ang mga tawo, kuan pod ni’g babaye,” he added.

Quirante added that aside from the motorcycle, they did not recover anything from the crime scene.

Police theorized that the victim may have been killed by his passenger. —/LPM (FREEMAN)
