Accidental firing hurts 2 policemen

CEBU, Philippines - Two policemen were wounded after an accidental discharge of firearm inside the Dumanjug Police Station last Saturday evening.

The injured police officers were identified as PO2 Edmundo Sala and PO1 Lorenel Labasa.

The victims were inside the police station watching television when the service firearm of PO1 Marwin Libradilla, a shotgun, suddenly went off. PO2 Ronilo Quirante, desk officer of Dumanjug Police Station, said that Libradilla was cleaning his service firearm when it happened.

“Ang kauban namo nag-check sa iyang service firearm nga naay defect basin daghan anoos sa ilawom, katong duha (Sala and Labasa) naglingkod nagtan-aw og tv diri sa sulod sa station,” Quiarante said.

Sala sustained gunshot wound in his right foot while Labasa was wounded in his leg. The two were rushed to Barili District Hospital but Labasa had to be transferred to a private hospital in Cebu City.

The chief of police, Senior Inspector Julius Ompad, has immediately ordered an investigation. The Cebu Provincial Police Office has directed the police station to submit the result of the investigation. (FREEMAN)
