CEBU, Philippines – A man was arrested after he reportedly hit a policeman’s head with a bottle of beer then tried to stab him with its broken piece in Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete last Thursday.

Police Officer 1 Joseph Rhinne Quilaton, presently assigned at the Regional Public Safety Battalion-7, suffered cuts to his head after Raffy Nepomuceno, 26, allegedly smashed it with a bottle.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim, without any apparent reason, was suddenly hit by the suspect with a bottle to his head past 1 a.m. on Thursday.

Quilaton, a resident of Barangay Sacsac in the same town, was in Barangay Mantalongon that day to visit his parents and relatives ahead of the New Year celebration.

After smashing the policeman’s head, the suspect allegedly tried to stab him with the broken bottle.

The victim, despite being wounded already, managed to evade the attack.

Residents in the area noticed the commotion and stopped the suspect from further hurting the police officer.

The suspect fled while Quilaton was brought to Dr. Ildefonso Alcantara Memorial Hospital in the town proper. The police officer was later released from the hospital.

At past 9 a.m., Quilaton reported the incident to Dalaguete Police Station and a team of policemen was then assembled to pursue the suspect.

The team soon found the suspect at the house of his parents in the same barangay and arrested him.

Charges are now being prepared against the suspect. —  /NSA (FREEMAN)
