City hall announces: Senior citizens can get cash aid until December 23

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Registered senior citizens in Cebu City have only until December 23 to claim their financial assistance from the city government.

City treasurer Diwa Cuevas said a number of the beneficiaries have not yet claimed their P3,000 cash aid, the last tranche of the P12,000 annual assistance of the city government to the elderly. There are more than 60,000 registered senior citizens in Cebu City.

“Giawhag nako ang tanang senior citizens to please claim your financial assistance today until December 23, 2015, kay daghan pa kaayo’g wala mi-claim,” Cuevas said.

She said that the City Hall will be open on Saturday, December 19, just to accommodate the senior citizens who will claim the amount.

Cuevas said the city decided to set the deadline until December 23 to lessen the job of the disbursing officers, considering that they need much time to liquidate.

“Luoy sad kaayo atong mga disbursing officers. Let’s give them time to settle everything kay mo-cash count ra ba dayon na ang COA (Commission on Audit),” she said.

The P3,000 aid a senior citizen fails to claim until the scheduled deadline will be forfeited, said Cuevas.

“Sorry, pero mao g’yud na ang policy. Next year na sad sila makakuha og assistance,” she said.

The city treasurer further said they will personally give the financial assistance to those senior citizens who are ill since they are considered exempted because of their state.  (FREEMAN)
