CEBU, Philippines - A 42-year-old resident of Barangay Labangon, Cebu City is facing charges before the court for attempting to kill his neighbor last week.

Assistant City Prosecutor Raul Cristoria held Efren Acruz for trial for the crime of attempted murder over last December 2’s incident wherein he allegedly attacked his neighbor George Gamboa.

“…accused with the use of a piece of concrete, with deliberate intent, with intent to kill and with treachery and evident premeditation, did then and there attack, assault one George Gamboa by smashing the said piece of concrete on his head from his back and choking him,” he ruled.

Cristoria recommended P24,000 bail for Acruz.

In his judicial affidavit, Gamboa, 34, alleged he was feeding his six-year-old niece outside the house of his brother on the afternoon of December 2 when Acruz appeared and smashed a piece of concrete to his head.

“Because of the impact of the said object, I instantly fell on the ground. When I tried to get up, Acruz who was standing right at my back lifted me up and viciously choked me,” he said.

Gamboa struggled to fight back and when their neighbors came to help him, the suspect ran away.

With the help of the barangay tanods, Gamboa said Acruz was arrested and was brought to the police station. — (FREEMAN)
