Man killed after “spreading” rumor
CEBU, Philippines - A rumor led to the death of a 41-year-old man who was shot dead by his neighbor in Barangay Quiot, Cebu City yesterday morning.
Richard Gallo, of Lower Suran Barangay Quiot, was allegedly shot dead by his neighbor Victoriano Serencio, who initially confronted the victim for reportedly spreading rumors that his wife was using illegal drugs.
According to Senior Police Officer 3 Filomeno Mendaros, investigator at the Homicide Section of Cebu City Police Office, prior to the shooting, Serencio confronted Gallo in his workplace. Gallo allegedly made rumors that Serencio’s wife is a drug user.
Mendaros said the verbal argument led to a fistfight. However, according to Mendaros, the suspect found it hard to beat the victim in the fistfight, so he pulled out a handgun.
After seeing the gun, Gallo ran towards warehouse of the company he works for. However, Gallo stumbled and Serencio caught up with him. The suspect then allegedly shot Gallo once.
“Malas lang gyud niya kay nadagma pa gyud siya,” said Mendaros.
Gallo was hit in the back and the bullet exited his right chest, which caused his immediate death.
Mendaros said as of last night, they have not yet arrested Serencio, who immediately fled away after the incident. (FREEMAN)
