Man shot dead inside room
CEBU, Philippines - A 46-year-old man, who was last heard apologizing to an unidentified man, died after he was shot in the head Saturday night at Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.
Eduardo Abasolo, 46, a native of Barangay Malolos, Barili, was discovered dead past 6 a.m. yesterday with a gunshot wound in his head.
Homicide investigators from the Cebu City Police Office responded to a call from Pardo Police Station personnel informing them of the incident.
Initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that a resident in the area, Jiji Cañete, woke up early morning yesterday and headed to the common comfort room of the house.
When she passed by Abasolo's room, the door was open and she was surprised to see a dead body on the floor. This prompted her to report to the Inayawan Barangay Hall.
Personnel from the barangay hall called for medical and police assistance, but the victim was already dead before the responders came.
Investigators, led by Senior Police Officer 2 Wetzel Berry, learned that at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, during the onset of the heavy rain, the victim was last heard speaking to someone.
Based on the testimony of a witness, the victim seemed to be asking for forgiveness to the person he was talking to, but a loud explosion was heard and it was followed by dead silence.
Nobody dared to get out of their rooms until the following morning when Cañete woke up.
Police investigators found a single gunshot wound in the victim's head. The police recovered drug paraphernalia and a mobile phone in his pocket.
Investigators are now looking for more witnesses to help them identify the gunman and the motive of the killing.
The body of the victim was brought to the Saint Francis Funeral Homes for post mortem examination. (FREEMAN)
