Davide denies Capitol has sold lot in Banilad
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III denied reports that the Capitol had already sold the province-owned lot in Maria Luisa Subdivision in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City even without approval from the Commission on Audit.
On the contrary, Davide clarified that the Capitol has not yet sold the lot as they are still waiting for COA’s approval.
Under COA Circular 92-386, disposal of a government lot should have the approval of COA and should undergo public bidding.
Allegedly, Capitol has sold the lot without following these rules and regulation from COA.
Davide said there are already interested buyers but they have not yet started the bidding because COA has not yet answered their letter.
The province-owned lot has a total area of 11,246 square meters.
Provincial Information Officer Ethel Natera said the lot located at the high-end subdivision is expected to have a high a value, though it will not be used for commercial purposes as the area is residential.
Natera said if the lot will be sold, proceeds will be used for provincial projects.
Last February, the Economic Enterprise Council (EEC) passed a resolution pushing for the selling of the lot.
In May 18, 2015, the province sent a letter to COA, asking permission for them to sell it.
Natera said that in July 2, COA asked for the requirements, which included tax declaration, sketch plan, land title and technical description.
Natera said the Capitol had already sent the needed requirements to COA but until now they have not yet received any reply from the audit body. — (FREEMAN)
