Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A 69-year-old man died after he was shot by a still unidentified gunman who knocked on his door yesterday morning in Barangay Tubod-Bitoon, Dumanjug town.

Jesus Paisano died immediately of a gunshot wound to the left side of his stomach.

Police Officer 1 Lorenel Labasa said at past 4 a.m. yesterday, residents of Sitio Tunga were awakened by a gunshot.

Paisano’s neighbors then saw him lying on the floor of his house, prompting them to call for police assistance.

Responding policemen checked the victim’s body and found a gunshot wound on his stomach. Paramedics assessed the victim to be dead already.

The police reportedly did not find an empty shell or a slug that could help them identify the type of firearm used by the assailant.

Witnesses told police investigators that they heard a man knocking on the victim’s door and minutes later, a gunshot followed.

Police are still investigating the incident to identify the killer. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
