Supporters to hold rally to gather funds for Duterte

CEBU, Philippines - Organizers of the “Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for President” initiative are organizing a concert rally in Cebu on November 22 in the hope of generating funds to support the movement.

Lawyer Noel Felongo, regional president of PDP-Laban, said the "Piso-piso para kay Duterte" will be launched during the concert dubbed “Rock for Federalism.”

Duterte has since been advocating for a federal form of government and has been open with his stand to push for a shift to federalism should he become president.

The concert rally here will be held at the University of the Philippines – Cebu grounds starting from 1 p.m. onwards, Felongo said.

"Admittedly, nagkinahanglan gyud og funding. The Piso-piso inititiave will prove that this is people's initiative gyud sa pag-awhag niya nga mo dagan," Felongco said in a press conference yesterday.

Organizers are also hopeful that Duterte would join the concert together with Senate majority floor leader Alan Peter Cayetano and other politicians.

Performers Jimmy Bondoc, Paulo Santos, Luke Mijares and other local artists and musicians will reportedly join the event.

Cayetano, a vice presidential candidate, said earlier he is not losing faith that Duterte will change his mind and will decide to be his running mate.

Cayetano, in a statement, said there is still a “glimmer of hope” Duterte may run for president in 2016 as a substitute for Martin Diño, his party mate, and the standard bearer of the PDP-Laban.

Cayetano said of all the candidates vying for the presidential post, only Duterte has offered to create real and concrete change that Filipino families need and deserve. (FREEMAN)
