Shooting incident: Chinese consul officials ask PRO-7 for evidence
CEBU, Philippines – Chinese consul officials paid a visit to the Police Regional Office-7 last Friday to ask for pieces of evidence related to the shooting incident last month which left two Chinese diplomats dead and the consul general injured.
However, PRO-7 Chief Superintendent Tom Bañas said they are still gathering all the evidence relative to the case.
“We are already compiling the eviden-ces,” said Bañas.
The Chinese consul officials visited Bañas last Friday to request for the pieces of evidence that they can use in the case against couple Li Quing Liang and Gou Jing, the principal suspects in the shooting incident last October 21 in a restaurant in Cebu City.
Aside from the request, Bañas said the Chinese consul officials also thanked them for facilitating the case.
“Nagpapasalamat sila sa cooperation na ipinakita ng Philippine government sa kanila as well as ang tulong din natin (policemen) that we facilitated the investigation,” said Bañas.
Bañas disclosed that one of Chinese officials who visited him include the one who will temporarily replace Chinese Consul General Song Ronghua, who has returned to China.
Ronghua was injured in the shooting incident while Chinese Deputy Consul Sun Shan and finance officer Hui Li were both killed.
Bañas said after concerns will be settled, he was told that a permanent consul general for Cebu will be assigned.
Further, Bañas said the Chinese consulate office in Cebu has resumed operations, except for the processing of visas.
“Kasi wala visa officers nila. Technical daw kasi yun,” Bañas said.
Liang and Jing were flown back to Xiamen, China last October 23, where their case will be heard.
Bañas said they still do not know the couple’s motive in shooting the three Chinese officials since the two ne-ver cooperated during their interrogation. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
