More cops for SRP

CEBU, Philippines - Noting the recent crimes happening in the South Road Properties, the director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office is now eyeing to have more policemen detailed at the area.

Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, CPPO director, said there is really a need to deploy more policemen in the SRP especially as a big mall is about to open in the area and a lot of people are expected to flock to it.

He also mentioned the recent snatching incident in which a man was killed after his motorcycle crashed when snatchers grabbed the bag of his passenger. A series of car theft incidents were also reported just last month.

With this, Gillamac said they are planning to talk with officials of the Cebu City Police Office as the area is near the boundary of the two cities.

“Kinahanglan gyud nga mag-join force mi sa Cebu City kay naa raba’y matukod nga dakong mall diha, I think we need more policeman in that area,” he said.

Senior Superintendent Marciano Batiancela Jr., the acting chief of the CCPO, also agreed with Gillamac’s idea saying that the number of policemen now patrolling in the SRP is really not enough.

“Ato na nga gi-welcome nga plano. Maayo na for CCPO ug sa Talisay sa CPPO. Mag-paabot lang ko anytime nga magkaistoryahanay mi kay dako kaayo na og tabang sa peace and order diha sa lugar,” said Batiancela.

Meanwhile, the Talisay City Council will be appropriating funds for the installation of a police outpost in the SRP.

This after the fatal snatching incident last week that killed Ruel Cabusas and injured Lea Jane Desamparado and her sister, Elvie.

City Councilor Edward Alesna, chairman of the committee on Peace and Order said he already talked with city budget officer Edgar Mabunay whether they could release fund for the purpose and Mabunay said they could.

He said that the executive department submitted their Supplemental Budget No. 4 which prompted them to insert their plans.

Alesna said they could purchase a collapsible police outpost which is not too expensive.

“Nindot gyud nga adunay police sa SRP aron mataha nang daan ang mga kriminal nga musuway sa paghimo sa krimen,” Alesna said.

Last Friday morning the two men on a black motorcycle tailed the motorcycle driven by Cabusas, who was driving his girlfriend Lea and her sister Elvie, to Mandaue City.

The men grabbed Elvie’s bag but Elvie struggled for it causing Cabusas to lose control of the motorcycle which crashed into the pavement.

Cabusas, who sustained severe injuries, was later declared dead on arrival at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while the injured sisters are still recuperating at the Talisay City District Hospital.

Superintendent Germano Mallari, chief of Talisay City Police said that their follow-up operation is still ongoing. He said his men have already sighted the personalities described by Elvie but they are waiting for the right time to arrest them.  (FREEMAN)
