65-year-old hacked dead
CEBU, Philippines - A 65-year-old man who was resting inside his shanty was killed after he was hacked by an unidentified man in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City last Sunday night.
Condrado Zamora Jr., of V. Rama Avenue, succumbed to multiple hack wounds to different parts of his body.
Senior Police Officer 2 Wetzel Berry, investigator of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, said Zamora initially went to his sister’s house, which is just beside his house.
At around 10 p.m., Berry reportedly told his sister that he would go back to his shanty. However, minutes later, a neighbor informed the sister that Zamora was lying outside his shanty unresponsive. This prompted them to call for police assistance.
Berry said when they arrived in the area, they found Zamora bloodied with hack wounds to the head and his left arm. He said Zamora may have tried to shield himself from the attack using his left arm.
Berry said they later found the bolo, measuring 21 inches, which was used in the crime with a price tag still attached to it.
Berry said they suspect the culprit had planned the attack since he or she bought a new bolo to kill Zamora.
Based on their investigation, Berry said they received reports that Zamora’s shanty was allegedly used by some drug users for their drug sessions. Zamora would reportedly shoo away the drug users.
Berry said this could possibly be the motive of the crime but they are still digging deeper in their investigation.
He said no one could identify Zamora’s hacker but those police had talked to claimed they heard unusual noises prior to his death.
But Berry said they have a witness who informed them that someone was seen roaming around the area before the incident happened. (FREEMAN)
