Warrant to seize 4 container vans issued

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Bureau of Customs-Cebu district collector Arnulfo Marcos issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention yesterday against the four container vans that reportedly held used contraband tires.

Vernie Enciso, chief of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation-Cebu, said that with the issuance of the WSD, BOC-Cebu is now in full custody of the shipment.

The other day, BOC-Cebu, led by Marcos, was able to trace the whereabouts of the four container vans, which were part of the 15 container vans that were illegally withdrawn from the Cebu International Port between June and July this year.

Enciso said the owner of the shipment will need to present all his documents in a hearing to prove that he has paid customs taxes and duties for the imported brand new tires that were also found at his owner’s rented warehouse in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

“Pero yung mga used tires, automatic forfeiture na yun kasi it’s a contraband,” Enciso said.

A formal inventory of the used tires will be made today.  BOC will also ask assistance from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to ensure that there are no illegal drugs included in the shipment.  (FREEMAN)
