PWD hacked for spilling bottle with his wheelchair

CEBU, Philippines - A differently abled person landed at the hospital in Barili after a drunk man hacked him Saturday evening because he accidentally spilled a bottle of drink.

The victim was Noven Clarin, 24, a native of Borbon, Cebu. He sustained several hack wounds from Placido Cañete, 53, of Barangay San Rafael, Barili.

Senior Police Officer 2 Heinie Aspera, desk officer of Barili Police Station, said the victim passed by the group of the suspect and accidentally hit a bottle of drink by his wheelchair.

Cañete reportedly scolded the victim resulting in a heated argument. The suspect went home but returned minutes later with a bolo and started hacking Clarin.

Fortunately, PO2 Dan Villardar passed by the area and heard the victim’s plea for help. Villardar responded resulting in the arrest of the suspect. The victim was rushed to Barili District Hospital.

Meanwhile, an argument over a checkers game locally known as “dama” resulted in stabbing incident Saturday evening in Barangay Cawayan, Dalaguete.

Cris Vincent Dy, 24, sustained wounds in his left shoulder and neck   after his neighbor Ireneo Duran, 41, stabbed him with a gaff.

Police Officer 3 Jehaziel Huyo-a, desk officer of Dalaguete Police Station, said the victim and the suspect came from the barangay to celebrate the annual fiesta.

When they got home the neighbors played checkers but a heated argument occurred in the middle of the game.

“Gikan sila og pista kauban, pag-uli nagduwa og dama nagkainitay. Gipakaon og kausa nya gibawsan og katulo kaon maoy nasuk-an,” Huyo-a said.

Duran accused the victim of cheating on him resulting in the argument and stabbing. The suspect escaped after the incident but was arrested during a hot pursuit operation. The victim is currently confined in a hospital in Cebu City.  (FREEMAN)
