CPPO urged: Check reports of drug protectors

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission has urged the provincial police office to look into reports that some policemen are protecting illegal drug traders.

CPADAC chief Joey Herrera said he had been receiving reports about policemen receiving protection money from drug pushers.

“I don’t know how to go about it. We can only urge the CPPO (Cebu Provincial Police Office) to protect the anti-illegal drug programs of the province by determining if the reports are true or not, and do something about it,” said Herrera.

Herrera’s statement came amid reports on police officers allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

Herrera said they also received similar reports from “sources” who reportedly complained of at least six policemen protecting illegal drug traders.

“Dugay na mi’ng nakadawat ana. Pero gidudahan pa lang. They could be users or protectors, it’s now up to the CPPO to determine,” he said.

“CPADAC has received info about police officers involved in illegal drugs. There were 6 to 8 (of them),” he said.

He said they already forwarded the information to CPPO director Noel Gillamac.

He said they did not bother to know the update as they already entrusted the job to the police.

“Kung tinuod na, lisud na sa among part sa CPADAC and other anti-illegal drug groups,” he said.

CPADAC has been known for its series of random drug testing in government offices, from the Capitol to the local government units, where several workers were tested positive.

Government workers who tested positive were already dismissed from the service upon the order of Governor Hilario Davide III. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
