CEBU, Philippines - At least 12 minor landslides were recorded in Cebu City in the past three days.

The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the landslides happened in Barangays Busay, Budlaan, Sapangdaku, Kalunasan, Pamutan and Tisa.

Harold Alcontin, CCDRRMC research head, said there were no reported injury or fatality in those landslides recorded from September 14 to 17.

“Maayo gani minor landslides lang intawn. Nag-monitor lang gihapon mi and awhag lang ta sa mga tawo nga namuyo didto nga vigilant lang all the time labi na kon mobalik ang ingon ato nga ulan,” Alcontin said.

He said that except for Pamutan, all landslide areas have already been cleared.

LAID TO REST

Meanwhile, the 13-year-old boy, who was buried alive in the rubbles after a riprap collapsed Sunday in Mandaue City, was laid to rest yesterday afternoon.

Vicente Cariquitan Jr. was laid to rest at the Mandaue City Public Cemetery in Barangay Guizo.

Casili Barangay Captain Paterno Cabatingan Jr. said a mass was offered at the Nativity of Mary Parish Church before the burial.

The bereaved family was joined by the victim’s teachers from Casili Elementary School and some of the staff of the barangay.

“Iyang mga uyoan, iyang pamilya. Mihatod sad ang mga maestra niya sa Casili... Naa sa’y ubang staff sa barangay,” Cabatingan said.

Cariquitan was killed Sunday after the riprap of Villa Sebastiana Tawason collapsed and covered their boarding house.

The subdivision’s developer, AIDFAZ Development Corporation, said the incident was caused by the constant rains since last week.

Dive Mendoza, marketing head of AIDFAZ, promised to shoulder all the expenses, including the hospital bills of the boy’s brother, Vladimir, 19, who was injured during the incident.

The Mandaue City government and Barangays Casili, Tawason, and Cubacub also gave financial assistance to the victims.

Tawason Barangay Captain Jesus Arcilla Jr. paid for the victim’s coffin. He also helped in the medical expenses of Vladimir who is still recuperating at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.  (FREEMAN)
