Basis found to push for formal probe vs cop

Ma. Fatima R. Secuya - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Police Regional Office-7 has found basis to recommend a summary hearing against the policeman who allegedly raped a minor five times.

Supt. Henry Biñas, deputy chief of RIDMD-7, said the division’s findings, which came about after a review of the victim’s affidavit, would have to be reviewed by the command group or PRO-7 Director Prudencio Tom Bañas himself.

Should their findings be approved, a summary hearing will follow during which PO3 Alexander Juaton would be given a chance to defend himself.

“During the summary hearing, he can then file a counter-affidavit to defend himself,” Biñas said.

Juaton remains on active duty at the Regional Personnel and Human Resources Development Division-7 at the regional headquarters. It would also be the discretion of the hearing officer – should a summary hearing be opened – to whether or not place Juaton under preventive suspension.

Biñas said the allegation is a serious offense and Juaton may be dismissed from service if he is proven guilty.

“However, it does not mean that if ma-acquit siya sa criminal case, ma-acquit na pud siya sa administrative case,” he said.

Together with her family, the girl went to radio station dyHP and narrated how Juaton allegedly raped her at least five times.

She said the first incident allegedly happened on December 12 last year and was repeated on January 5, February 26, March 17 and April 6.

Juaton, a close friend of the girl’s family, denied all the allegations publicly. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
