Most of DPWH projects for 2015 are yet to start
CEBU, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways-Cebu City district engineering office has a lot of catching up to do after it only completed nine out of the 144 infrastructure projects set for implementation in 2015 as of July 31.
The records of the DPWH-Cebu City district office also show that 87 of these projects are yet to be started. These include the projects allocated for the Department of Education.
The DPWH has an allotted budget of P525,576,000 for 52 public schools in the city. According to DPWH, 48 projects are still ongoing. The nine completed projects under the asset preservation of national roads included rehabilitation, reconstruction, and upgrading of damaged paved national roads and its drainage.
These are the arterial road of Cebu North Road with an allocated budget of P50 million; the arterial road from Cebu to Balamban Transcentral Highway (P29.098 million); and the secondary road from Cebu to Guadalupe Road (P11.557 million).
Under network development were the other five road projects completed for the off-carriageway improvement that includes the 8th Street (P2.823 million); Mabini Street to Lopez Jaena Street (P1.533 million); R.R. Landon Street (P1.673 million); V. Sotto Street (P1.319 million); M. Velez Street (P1.875 million) and; Magallanes Street (P450,000).
Apart from the road projects, the DPWH – Cebu City DEO had also allocated P113 million for local infrastructure program for the construction of two classrooms in Cambinocot Elementary School and for the construction of 15 multi-purpose buildings in different barangays and medical facility.
Further, the DPWH also prepared for the farm-to-market roads or the concreting projects in 24 barangays allocating P50 million budget. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
