CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu provincial government turned over yesterday 27 vehicles totaling to P17 million to some local government units and government-run hospitals in the province.

This was the fourth wave of distribution of vehicles under the present administration.

A total of 13 units of mini-ambulance were distributed to barangays Cadulawan in Minglanilla, Lacan and Tabayag in Argao, Pansoy in Sogod, Manguiao in Asturias, Don Andres Soriano and Subayon in Toledo City, Basak in Catmon, Kang-actol, Panlaan, Calaboon, all in Dumanjug, and Banhigan in Badian.

The barangays of Ubogon in Asturias, Cansaga (Consolacion), Tungkil (Minglanilla), Nug-as (Alcoy), Santo Niño (Malabuyoc), Biasong and Poblacion (Talisay City), and Taloot (Argao), and the city of Toledo also received a unit of mini dump truck each.

Five units of large ambulances equipped with basic rescue apparatus and medical supplies like stretcher, spine board, oxygen tank, medicine cabinet and emergency kits were also turned over to the Provincial Health Office and the provincial hospitals in Balamban, Bogo City, Carcar City, and Danao City.

Each unit of mini-ambulance, large ambulance, and mini-dump trucks was worth P205, 000, P1.6 million, and P710, 000, respectively.

Governor Hilario Davide III in his speech during the turnover ceremony said the project is part of the province’s effort to improve the delivery of health services and emergency response, which was among the top priorities of his administration.

In an interview, Cansaga barangay captain Peter Cabillada said his barangay would no longer have to borrow a dump truck from their municipality to collect garbage. He said the vehicle could also be used to evacuate his constituents, considering that their barangay is flood-prone.

“Usa sa among priority is garbage collection para sa clean and green program…  Gusto nato karon nga barangay na ang mag-manage aron controlled na nato ang unit. Sa una naay panahon nga magbahaw-bahaw na atong garbage kay di makolekta,” he said.

Earlier this month, the Capitol also turned over multicabs to 39 barangays and municipalities. — (FREEMAN)
